I plan the daily work for technicians across London and Bedford, matching the right technician to each job. This includes both planned and reactive work; I know in advance when equipment needs to be serviced, but I also need to respond quickly if there’s a breakdown or an urgent customer installation. I love the challenge of balancing everything and getting that sense of achievement every day.

I was in the Army for seven years
I joined the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, having studied engineering at college. I served for seven years as a vehicle mechanic. When I left the Army, I decided I wanted to broaden my skills away from HGV maintenance. So now, I service and maintain the engines inside Aggreko’s generators. And when there’s an issue or a breakdown, I diagnose and then fix the problem.
I feel valued as a colleague and teammate
At Aggreko, you’re trusted and treated like an adult. If I ever had an issue outside of work, I know I could speak to my manager and we’d be able to sort something out. There’s that two-way trust. I’ve not met anyone at Aggreko who I couldn’t get on with.
I enjoy the variety and doing a good job
Field Service Technicians are usually on the road, so you’re out and about. Your scenery is always changing. At the moment, I’m dedicated to one of our customers’ huge sites, and because it’s so big, I still get that variety. The other aspect I like is our focus on safety, and how we’re expected to do a good job, right first time, and not just rushing a job to get it done quickly.

I lead a team of highly qualified and experienced engineers. Together, we develop and specify the products that ultimately make the difference for all our global customers. I started as an apprentice
I’ve done so many roles in engineering, from validation, controls development and electrical design. I’ve travelled with Aggreko. They’ve sponsored all my further education. I now have an Electrical Engineering honours degree, and a Six Sigma Black Belt from Ohio State University.

Over the next two years, I’m expecting to build on what I learned at university and develop a well-rounded understanding of HR. I lead the European sales team for our data centre sector. The development has been immense
I started in marketing but quickly realised I fancied doing sales. So I worked to get myself ready should a role become available. Since then, I’ve done various sales roles, a products role focused on temperature control, and been promoted into sales leadership. The development has been immense, and my career keeps evolving. Many organisations talk about their can-do culture, but I would say that we truly embrace the one team culture, across sales, operations and the other departments. We could be supplying a hospital with power. It makes you realise how important our work is to get right. At the other end of the scale, our chillers cool ice rinks, and we get to see families go skating. Our work brings joy or stability to people.

There’s never a boring day. And if you ask anyone who’s started an apprenticeship at Aggreko, you’ll see there are so many different career paths. You don't always have to stay doing one thing. You could go into engineering, or focus on events, or become a manager. And if you try something and you don't like it, you can go back and Aggreko will support you no matter what.
I get great support from my colleagues
If I'm ever struggling with something, I can go and ask any of my colleagues. And straight away, no matter what, they’ll go through it again and again and again until I understand. It’s the same with my college studies too – my colleagues will show me how the theory I’m learning can be applied in real-life practical examples. Which I find fascinating once it clicks.

I have been with Aggreko for over 10 years since joining from Deloitte. Starting with internal audit before moving on to the risk management function and then to our finance transformation program. In my time with Aggreko, I have travelled to the majority of our locations around the world, allowing me to see first-hand how our business operates and to engage with those who make it happen.

I keep our equipment healthy
My role in Aggreko is a commissioning and operational support technician. I make sure all the machines are in good order, and I keep them healthy so that they’re all set to work as efficiently as possible. Right now, I’m supporting the Irish power EirGrid with 50MW of gas-powered capacity resilience.
I’ve worked on such different projects
I’ve worked for Aggreko on different projects in the Middle East, in Africa, and now in Ireland. I’ve learned to commission, install and maintain diesel, gas and HFO generators. My supportive managers have encouraged me to develop professionally. And I have great job security and peace of mind, working for a global company, with many options to work in different countries.

I was in the army for 25 years
I was a reservist before I joined The Parachute Regiment, and I finished my military career as a WO1(RSM) with the SAS. After the forces, my first job was with a high-risk security company. I then went on a leadership development programme and from there I joined Aggreko as Group Head of Security. Ten years on and my role has expanded to also include Heath, Safety and the Environment.

I’m in the application engineering team
We listen to customers problems, define solutions, and see their projects through to delivery. For example, I was involved with our flare-gas-to-power project in Egypt, from technical/commercial feasibility to detailed engineering work, and it’s now been operational for three years. It’s one of the largest projects of its kind in Africa and has huge commercial and environmental benefits.
You can quickly learn and grow
Our industry is developing fast, which means there are lots of opportunities for growth. For example, I joined nine years ago as a graduate engineer and, at Aggreko, I’ve learned my trade. I’ve gone from being a control systems engineer to now being a technical leader. And if you join as an experienced engineer, you can showcase your skills and push the limits of what is possible.
We’re making decarbonisation a reality
We’re delivering reliable and affordable power, and reducing carbon emissions at the same time. For example, we have one of the of the largest mining off-grid hybrid power systems in Africa. It couples over 30MW of thermal generation with over 10MW of battery storage. This provides lower cost and more stable power, reduces emissions, and allows easier solar integration for even more savings.

I work on high- and low-voltage projects
I install, monitor and test high- and low-voltage equipment. That includes generators, transformers, switchgears, voltage and current transformers, protection relays, hybrid solar inverters and energy meters. The list goes on. And when there’s a problem, we go in and fix it, and get the customer back in service.
I hope to become a highly skilled engineer
I already have degree in Electrical Engineering. And with Aggreko’s support and training, together with my ten years of experience at Aggreko sites, I hope to take on more responsibility and become a fully skilled engineer.

I joined Aggreko on an apprenticeship straight from university and did several years as an electrician. I’ve worked in Congo DR, Madagascar, Gabon and Dubai. I got my Six Sigma blackbelt qualification. I’ve been an operations supervisor, been the continuous improvement specialist for Africa, and now I’m the plant manager in Gabon with a team of 40.

And so now that I’m a manager, I’m better able to support my team.

My team and I work with clients from a range of different industries in Japan to help them to meet their power and temperature control challenges. We support steel manufacturers, data centers, utilities, petrochemical plants, the list goes on. I service and repair equipment so it’s ready to go out and deliver what customers need. Power, air conditioning, compressed air. I love the variety. Today I’m working on a diesel engine, tomorrow it could be a water chiller. If I had wanted to go into sales or management then I could have done that, but I like making use of my skills, and being an expert in every single piece of equipment.
The work here is not prescriptive
We have guidelines about how to do a particular job. But if you start and run into an issue, you don’t just call your boss and say you can’t finish it – you problem solve. For example, if I need a particular tool that we don’t have, or a piece of equipment needs Canadian certification, we can organise that ourselves. We’re trusted to do the right thing.

I’ve worked on movie sets and behind the scenes at high profile sporting events. Once, I chatted with Tim Allen on the set of The Santa Clause; we joked about how I was setting up a water chiller for him. I hated school and I had to get out. I got an apprenticeship as a light vehicle mechanic, worked in different industries after I got qualified, including mining and working on ships and trucks. And then I found my passion in power generation, and I’ve been with Aggreko almost 11 years now. There’s training on different assets and applications. There’s always more to learn and ways to develop.

I enjoy the teaching aspect
I train technicians across North America about our power equipment, so they’re able to help serve customers. I enjoy seeing people have that lightbulb moment, when they start to connect the dots. That happens a lot in the alternator schematics class, where they didn’t understand the prints – the lines and the drawings – and then you see things click into place for them. That’s when they’ve got it.
My progression has felt natural
My progression to a senior technician and now a technical instructor has been very fluid and natural. After my initial training, people would say, ‘Go to Raphael for that and he’ll show you’. And I’m always learning. I sit in with more advanced classes, including external training from partners like Volvo and Deif. And as trainers, we’re always learning from each other, giving each other pointers.
People here are proud of their work
When there’s a hurricane, Aggreko brings power to people’s homes and businesses. We’re often on site for days, away from our families, getting things set up. But then it’s all worth it when we switch things on and bring people power. We’re bringing them safety and air conditioning. You see people instantly relax.

I get involved in powering the most exciting events. The 2023 Women’s World Cup was a major highlight. Concert tours such as Pink’s 2024 Australian stadium tour with over 800,000 tickets sold. You get to see 30-40,000 people with smiles on their faces, all enjoying what we have been involved in delivering. I think that’s what I enjoy most about it.

My main responsibility is to remotely monitor 26 power plants, ensuring efficient operation. I optimize processes by adjusting parameters and configurations, and applying software updates, as well as implementing new technologies. I make it easier for us all to serve customers. I work with various teams at different levels of the organisation to review our current processes, identify gaps, and then work together to fix them.
